Nature is full of genius, full of the divinity; so that not a snowflake escapes its fashioning hand.Henry David Thoreau
We had a late-season snow yesterday afternoon. The snow fell gently throughout the evening and blanketed the trees and Earth with its pure white softness.
I walked with my daughter and our dog, Lily, around the small lake near our house. The neighborhood was silent except for the gently falling snow and the sounds of the geese moving through the still waters.
Despite all the fear and tension in the world due to the Coronavirus pandemic, this moment was absolutely perfect. My daughter asked for my phone to take a few pictures of the geese. We could sense the divinity surrounding us and for a moment there was no worry, no fear, no thoughts of the future.
Nature provides this inner peace.
In our fast-paced society, we find so many things to distract us from our true selves. Shopping, eating out, driving aimlessly around town, so many ways to distract us from our spiritual selves.
Suddenly, people are now forced to find the peace they seek in nature. We are walking our dogs more, exercising, going for leisurely walks. Nature is getting a chance to “breathe” as the people rest within her embrace.
- Are you finding yourself spending more time in nature right now and how has this improved your life?
- Do you have a greater sense of calm and inner peace during your time outside?
- Write in your journal some observations on your next walk of the beauty you see around you.
