I was fortunate enough to see the first sunrise of the year.
I was driving home from my night shift and captured these quick pictures at 70 mph.
The cold, barren landscape quickly came alive with sunlight as the orange ball of light grew bigger and brighter.
Thinking of the blessing from John O'Donohue that I shared with you yesterday I pondered the last verse, " From the evidence, why was I given this day?"
To see the rising sun is an incredible blessing, even if we don't see the rising with our eyes. We can feel it and sense it as we are beings of the Earth whose bodies rise naturally with the change of light and sound of the morning.
I wanted to fully experience this new year sunrise so I slowed down in the car and said a silent "Thank you" to God for giving me this day. A simple word of thank you at the sunrise is all it took to care for my soul. I am grateful at having the awareness at the moment to slow down and watch one of the greatest displays of God's love and the benevolence of our universe.
